This New 3D Map of the Universe Shows the Milky Way in Groundbreaking Detail The European Space Agency's satellite has provided precise new data about outer space. The colors of the sky, determined with data from the European Space Agency's Gaia satellite | ESA/GAIA/DPAC The European Space Agency just publicized new data from its Gaia observatory, which has been hovering in space since 2013 on a mission to chart a 3D map of the galaxy that will give astronomers clues to solve the universe's biggest mysteries. The spacecraft's Early Data Release 3 (EDR3) is only part of the third set of data—the rest will be compiled in 2022—but its findings are monumental for understanding the origins and magnitude of the Milky Way. “The new Gaia data promise to be a treasure trove for astronomers,” said deputy project scientist Jos de Bruijne in the release.

No one needs this insane $20,000 gaming Pc There's nice computers, there's overkill, and then there's cramming two fully-functional PCs, 14 CPU cores, and three completely separate liquid-cooling systems into one gorgeous case. This is the latter. The build of the mad product of UK-based firm Overclockers UK and its in-house extreme builder 8Pack. This is the computing equivalent of an AMG-tuned Mercedes, and it shows. The system is actually  two  complete PCs. Up top, there's a system running Intel's $1,700 10-core processor, three GTX 980 Ti graphics cards, and 64GB of memory. Oh, and did I mention the 4TB of solid-state drive space? In case that system is busy churning through video processing or breaking into the Pentagon, there's a second, more reasonable PC built into the case. It 'only' uses a Core i7-6700K overlocked to 4.8GHz with 16GB of RAM, and should be suitable for light web browsing while you're waiting for the nuclear launch sequenc...

Al-Khwarizmi: The Father of Algebra We explore the origins of algebra and mathematics that underpin the science of flight and the transport of the future. None of the great achievements of modern science would be possible without the mathematisation of science and the development of algebra. Muhammad al-Khwarizmi, the “father of algebra” •Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi was a 9th-century Muslim mathematician and astronomer. ••He is known as the “father of algebra”, a word derived from the title of his book, Kitab al-Jabr. •His pioneering work offered practical answers for land distribution, rules on inheritance and distributing salaries. ••He also developed the concept of the algorithm in mathematics, which is why some have called him the “grandfather of computer science”. •Khwarizmi was one of the most famous scholars of Bayt al-Hikma (The House of Wisdom), Baghdad’s intellectual powerhouse. ••The House of Wisdom was a centre for the study of sciences, including mathematics, astro...
